About Us

The support group was founded in 1986 by the late Yvonne and George Stollery DSM.  Their aim was to help cancer
patients and their families at Anglesea Road Hospital.  Now the Support Group helps Somersham Ward and the whole of the Woolverstone Wing at Ipswich Hospital.

Our members come from all walks of life and many have had first hand experience of cancer.  We all work on a voluntary basis on the ward for example providing people with teas and coffees.

There are many ways in which the Group improve the qualify of life of those on the ward.  These include specialist medical equipment, and comforts that make staying on the ward pleasant and comfortable.  We have also provided a relatives room fitted out with chairs, TV, overnight sleeping
accomodation and fully equipped bathroom.  As well as this we have a day room in which we have set up tea and coffee making facilities.

Patients are provided with a cooked breakfast and at Easter and Christmas every patient on the ward receives presents from the Group.

The Group works very closely with all the staff on the ward to help ensure patient care is at its best.  We now provide extra training for staff to help improve their knowledge and care which then creates a better experience for those on the ward.
